Harbour Master’s Office
As the place where harbour officers carry out their duties, it constitutes a functional unit of the port. It plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of maritime traffic and the reception of vessels in the port.
Responsible for putting in place the necessary measures to integrate the vessel into the port complex and for ensuring the port authority’s ongoing presence for vessels and users.
It also carries out policing duties conferred upon it primarily by the Maritime Ports Code.
Port officers inspect and monitor port facilities, as well as ensuring compliance with port regulations. They coordinate rescue operations for ships in distress.
Their remit covers a wide range of areas, from prevention and enforcement to the regulation of port traffic: they regulate the order in which vessels enter and leave the port, allocate berths, monitor manoeuvres, and direct and coordinate movements.
Port officers are responsible for ensuring compliance with all general and specific regulations relating to port policing and operations.

- Management and regulatory monitoring of hazardous and non-hazardous goods in transit through the port
- Enforces the Ports Code

- Signage police
- Enforces the port’s specific regulations
- Checks that regulatory documents from shipping agents are correctly transmitted via the Port Information System to the relevant government departments

Customs
The Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration oversees the flow of passengers and goods on the departure and arrival of ships and, as part of the Vigipirate measures, helps to secure port (and airport) facilities. Customs collects customs duties, port charges, the TIPP (tax on petroleum products) and various other taxes, and also manages the indirect taxation sector (wine, spirits, tobacco, etc.).

Admission fee
The P.A.F. (Border Police) is stationed at the Commercial Port of Ajaccio in connection with direct ferry services to one of the member states of the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement. Working in close collaboration with the Customs Service, its remit is to monitor migration flows and cross-border movement. It carries out various checks on ships arriving at and departing from the Commercial Port of Ajaccio.

Steering
A pilot must be on board all vessels over 60 metres in length at the Port of Ajaccio.
Pilotage services for the four commercial ports in Southern Corsica are provided by the Ajaccio Pilotage Station, which has six pilot boats, two rigid-hulled inflatable boats and six pilots, deployed across the various ports as required.
The Pilotage Service also has a professional contract with Météo-France to ensure that vessels are received safely in the ports of Southern Corsica.
Pilots are on call day and night at the request of the Harbour Master’s Office in commercial ports or of shipowners within the pilotage areas specified in the local regulations.

Towing / Hauling
The Mooring Department comprises a team of 18 seafarers who provide services to vessels 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
To carry out mooring operations under the right conditions and ensure the safety of vessel berthing manoeuvres in the commercial ports of Southern Corsica, Nauttos operates two patrol boats and two tugs: the Persevero (2,800 ch) with a capacity of 35 tonnes and the Paladinu (1,000 ch) with a capacity of 15 tonnes.
A third tugboat is currently under construction; it is due to be delivered in 2025 and will have a pulling capacity of 24 tonnes.

Stevedoring (Orazzi Company)
Orazzi manages cargo handling operations at the Commercial Port of Ajaccio from Monday to Sunday inclusive.
The company has the necessary human and material resources, comprising around forty employees (dockers, machine operators, foremen), five harbour tractors and four forklift trucks
